Moon Over GBT. From the post card: The GBT is the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope, with a dish diameter of 100 X 110 meters. The GBT stands 485 feet tall and weighs 16 million pounds making it the largest moving structure on land. The GBT is used by scientists from around the world.

Radio Jupiter. From the post card: Jupiter's radiation belts are brighter than the planet itself when viewed at the radio frequency of about 1400 MHz. Jupiter has a strong magnetic field surrounding the planet which traps charged particles that stream out from the sun. Jupiter's rapid rotation accelerates the particles, producing strong radio radiation.


Radio Saturn. From the post card: Note the bright disk of the planet with a gradual fading toward the edge. This illustrates the gradual cooling outward in Saturn's atmosphere. The rings are seen in emission outside the disk but then in front of the planet they absorb the radiation from the bright disk behind, appearing as a dark band.
